This formulation contains a 2:1 ratio of Ampicillin (the antibiotic) and Sulbactam (the protector).

• The Problem (Resistance): Many bacteria (like Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and Bacteroides fragilis) produce enzymes called Beta-Lactamases. These enzymes break open the beta-lactam ring of Ampicillin, rendering it useless.
• The Solution (Sulbactam): Sulbactam is a “Suicide Inhibitor.” It has little antibacterial activity itself, but it binds irreversibly to the bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes. By “sacrificing” itself, it neutralizes the enzyme, allowing Ampicillin to reach the cell wall and kill the bacteria unhindered.
• Spectrum Expansion: This combination restores Ampicillin’s activity against resistant strains, including anaerobes found in gut and pelvic infections.

Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

• Route: Deep Intramuscular (IM) or Slow Intravenous (IV) Injection / Infusion (over 15-30 mins).
• Adults: 1.5 g (1g+0.5g) to 3 g (2g+1g) every 6 hours. Maximum daily dose of Sulbactam should not exceed 4 g.
• Children: 150 mg/kg/day (combined) in divided doses every 6 hours.
• Reconstitution: Dissolve 1.5g vial in 3.2ml Sterile Water (for IM) or more for IV. Allow to stand until foam dissipates.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Penicillin Allergy (ANAPHYLAXIS): CONTRAINDICATED in patients with a history of penicillin hypersensitivity.
• Liver Function: Rare cases of drug-induced liver injury (cholestatic hepatitis) have been reported. Monitor liver enzymes during prolonged therapy.
• IM Pain: The injection can be painful. For IM use, reconstitution with 0.5% Lidocaine Hydrochloride may be used (if compatible).
