Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

• Route: Intravenous (IV) Infusion or Deep Intramuscular (IM) Injection.
• Dilution (CRITICAL for IV): Must be diluted to a concentration of 20% or less for IV infusion. Direct IV push of 50% is dangerous and can cause cardiac arrest.
• Eclampsia Loading Dose: 4 g IV (diluted) over 5-15 mins, followed by 5 g IM in each buttock.
• Monitoring: Clinical signs of Magnesium Toxicity must be monitored: Knee-jerk reflex (patellar reflex), respiratory rate (>16/min), and urine output.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Respiratory Depression: High levels of magnesium can paralyze respiratory muscles. Keep Calcium Gluconate (Antidote) ready for immediate IV use if toxicity occurs.
• Renal Failure: Magnesium is excreted solely by the kidneys. Use with extreme caution in patients with impaired renal function to avoid toxic accumulation.
• Myasthenia Gravis: Use with caution as it can exacerbate muscle weakness.
• Heart Block: Contraindicated in patients with heart block or myocardial damage.
