Description
Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate Injection
Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of potent bacteriostatic antibiotics. We provide high-purity Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate Injection (1g), sourced from WHO–GMP certified sterile injectable facilities. This “Meningitis & Typhoid Specialist” is a top export to infectious disease wards, rural hospitals, and government health ministries in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as a critical, cost-effective treatment for life-threatening infections like Typhoid Fever and Meningitis where other drugs may be unavailable or ineffective.
Product Overview
This formulation contains Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate, a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the body to release active Chloramphenicol.
The “Blood-Brain Barrier” Specialist:
- Mechanism (Protein Synthesis Halt): Chloramphenicol is a potent inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis. It binds reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the attachment of amino acids to the growing peptide chain. This stops bacterial growth (bacteriostatic).
- CNS Penetration: It has exceptional lipid solubility, allowing it to cross the Blood-Brain Barrier easily. Levels in the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) can reach 50-60% of plasma levels even without meningeal inflammation, making it highly effective for bacterial meningitis.
- Typhoid Fever: Historically the drug of choice for Salmonella typhi. It remains a vital option in developing regions for treating severe Typhoid where newer drugs are too expensive or resistant.

Manufacturing Authority
Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.
- Prodrug Stability: Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate is highly soluble in water but susceptible to hydrolysis. We use advanced lyophilization cycles to remove moisture to <1%, ensuring the ester linkage remains intact during storage, preventing premature activation or degradation.
- Endotoxin Control: Given its use in meningitis (intrathecal/IV), our manufacturing process ensures strict endotoxin limits to prevent fever or shock during administration.
Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)
Indicated for serious infections where other antibiotics are ineffective or contraindicated:
- Typhoid Fever: Severe enteric fever caused by Salmonella typhi.
- Bacterial Meningitis: Caused by H. influenzae, N. meningitidis, or S. pneumoniae (especially in penicillin-allergic patients).
- Brain Abscess: Due to excellent CNS penetration (often combined with Metronidazole).
- Rickettsial Infections: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (alternative to Tetracyclines).
- Anaerobic Infections: Intra-abdominal infections involving Bacteroides fragilis.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Intravenous (IV) Injection ONLY. (IM injection is ineffective due to poor hydrolysis).
- Adults: 50 mg/kg/day divided into 4 doses (every 6 hours).
- Severe Infections (Meningitis): Up to 100 mg/kg/day.
- Children: 50 mg/kg/day divided into 4 doses.
- Reconstitution: Dissolve 1g vial in 10ml WFI/Saline (100 mg/ml). Inject over at least 1 minute.
Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):
- Bone Marrow Suppression (FATAL): Can cause dose-related reversible suppression OR idiosyncratic irreversible Aplastic Anemia (rare but fatal). Regular blood counts are mandatory.
- Gray Baby Syndrome: CONTRAINDICATED in neonates/premature infants. Their immature liver cannot metabolize the drug, leading to accumulation, cardiovascular collapse, and death (Gray Baby Syndrome).
- Interaction: Inhibits liver enzymes (CYP450), increasing levels of Warfarin, Phenytoin, and Sulfonylureas.
