Oral Rehydration Salts Sachets
Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) Sachets — WHO Formulation
Product Overview
This formulation operates as an “Intestinal Fluid Transport Adjuvant.” It ensures patient safety by taking physical advantage of active cellular transport mechanisms to restore hydration during severe diarrheal fluid depletion.
Mechanism 1 (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transport Synergy): In a damaged or inflamed bowel, standard water absorption is physically impaired. However, our precise ratio of glucose to sodium physically utilizes the functional SGLT-1 transport proteins in the intestinal lumen.
Mechanism 2 (Accelerated Osmotic Water Influx): As sodium is actively pumped across the intestinal epithelial membrane by glucose, it chemically creates an osmotic gradient. This gradient physically pulls water out of the gut cavity directly back into the bloodstream, bypassing typical diarrheal fluid barriers.
Mechanism 3 (Metabolic Acidosis Correction): The inclusion of Trisodium Citrate chemically counteracts metabolic acidosis induced by bicarbonate loss in diarrhea, while Potassium Chloride physically replenishes intracellular potassium stores to prevent muscle weakness and cardiac instability.
Product Composition & Osmolarity Calibration
We manufacture the exact Low-Osmolarity ORS configuration, which has been clinically proven to reduce stool volume, eliminate the need for intravenous infusions by greater than 33%, and physically shorten recovery windows compared to old high-osmolarity variants.
1. Powder Weight per Sachet (To Make 1 Litre of Solution)
| Active Ingredient | Mass per Sachet (Grams) | Primary Physiological Function |
| Glucose (Anhydrous) IP / BP / USP | 13.50 g | The Driver: Drives the active sodium transport mechanism. |
| Sodium Chloride IP / BP / USP | 2.60 g | The Replenisher: Replaces lost extracellular fluid ions. |
| Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate IP/BP/USP | 2.90 g | The Buffer: Corrects systemic metabolic acidosis. |
| Potassium Chloride IP / BP / USP | 1.50 g | The Balancer: Prevents systemic hypokalemia. |
| Total Weight | 20.50 g | Standard sachet yield for exactly 1000 mL of water. |
2. Resulting Systemic Concentration (Low-Osmolarity Profile)
Total Osmolarity: 245 mOsm/L (The optimal international standard)
Ionic Breakdown: Sodium: 75 mmol/L, Glucose: 75 mmol/L, Chloride: 65 mmol/L, Citrate: 10 mmol/L, Potassium: 20 mmol/L.
Technical & Logistics Specifications
HS Code: 3004.90.99 (Medicaments acting on the alimentary tract / Electrolytes)
Dosage Form: Oral Crystalline/Granular Dry Powder
Flavour Profile: Available in Unflavoured (Standard Tender), Orange, Lemon, and Fruit Punch matrices to increase pediatric compliance.
Packaging Configurations:
20.50 g Sachets (to make 1 Litre) or 4.10 g Sachets (to make 200 mL).
Sealed inside High-Barrier Quad-Layer Foil Laminates (Polyester / LDPE / Aluminium Foil / Surlyn). This extreme barrier configuration completely prevents moisture transmission and mechanical caking, guaranteeing a 36-month shelf life in harsh Zone IVb tropical and humanitarian emergency climates.
Advanced Manufacturing Integrity & Stability Controls
Zero-Moisture Powder Processing: Raw ORS components (particularly anhydrous glucose) are highly hygroscopic and will cake or degrade rapidly if exposed to ambient air. We operate our complete sachet-filling lines inside Dehumidified Cleanrooms maintained at strict relative humidity levels (RH less than 20%).
Volumetric Dosing Precision: To ensure absolute chemical accuracy across millions of units, we deploy Automated High-Speed Multi-Lane Sachet Packing Machines with integrated check-weighing, ensuring that every packet yields the precise 245 mOsm/L concentration upon reconstitution.
Co-Bundling Capacity: We offer specialized packaging layouts where ORS sachets are physically co-packed into dual-pouches with Zinc Dispersible Tablets (20 mg) to fulfill WHO diarrhea management directives in a single commercial stock keeping unit (SKU).
Primary Indications
Pediatrics & Gastroenterology: Treatment and prevention of dehydration due to Acute Diarrheal Diseases, Cholera, Dysentery, and Gastroenteritis.
Sports & Occupational Health: Rehydration following severe physical exertion or heat stress in tropical industrial zones.
Usage Instructions
Reconstitution Rule: Completely dissolve the contents of one 20.50g sachet physically in 1 Litre (1000 mL) of clean, boiled-and-cooled drinking water.
Solution Accuracy Warning: Never mix ORS powder into milk, fruit juice, or soda, and do not add extra sugar or salt. Doing so chemically alters the osmolarity, which can physically worsen diarrhea.
Storage and Discard Lifecycle: Once reconstituted, the solution must be kept covered. Any unused portion must be physically discarded after 24 hours due to the risk of bacterial contamination.
Safety Warning: Essential Public Health Rehydration. Boiling Note: If clean drinking water is unavailable, water must be boiled and cooled before dissolving the salts. Renal Warning: Use with physical caution in patients presenting with severe renal impairment, anuria, or severe persistent vomiting that requires immediate intravenous intervention.
