Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Intramuscular (IM) is preferred. Intravenous (IV) is reserved for life-threatening emergencies.
- Standard Dose: 0.2 mg (1 mL) administered IM after delivery of the anterior shoulder or after delivery of the placenta.
- Repeat Dose: May be repeated every 2–4 hours as needed, up to 5 doses.
- IV Precautions: If given IV, administer slowly over at least 60 seconds with careful blood pressure monitoring.
Safety Warnings:
- Pregnancy: CONTRAINDICATED during pregnancy (Category C) prior to the delivery of the fetus (induction of labor) as it may cause tetanic uterine contractions and fetal distress.
- Hypertension: Contraindicated in patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension (Pre-eclampsia/Eclampsia) as it causes vasoconstriction.
- Lactation: Excreted in breast milk; use with caution during lactation.
