Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

• Administration: Disperse the tablet(s) in a minimum of 50 ml of water, stir well, and drink immediately. May also be swallowed whole with water if preferred.
• HSV Treatment (Adults): 200 mg five times daily (approximately every 4 hours, omitting the night dose) for 5 days.
• HSV Suppression: 400 mg twice daily, or 200 mg up to four times daily.
• Shingles / Herpes Zoster (Adults): 800 mg five times daily for 7 to 10 days. Treatment should begin within 72 hours of rash onset.
• Chickenpox (Pediatrics >2 years): 20 mg/kg (up to a maximum of 800 mg) four times daily for 5 days.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Crystal Nephropathy (Renal Impairment): Acyclovir is excreted primarily by the kidneys. High doses (especially the 800 mg regimen) can precipitate as crystals in the renal tubules, causing acute kidney injury. Adequate oral hydration is absolutely mandatory during treatment. Dosages must be reduced in patients with existing renal impairment.
• Neurological Reactions: Particularly in the elderly or those with renal dysfunction, severe encephalopathic changes (confusion, hallucinations, agitation, tremors) can occur if the dose is not appropriately adjusted.
