Description
Quinine Dihydrochloride Injection
Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of life-saving tropical and infectious disease therapies. We provide high-purity Quinine Dihydrochloride Injection (300 mg/ml / 600 mg per 2 ml), manufactured in WHO–GMP certified sterile facilities. This “Alkaloid Antimalarial” is a mandatory export to tropical disease centers, rural clinics, and government health ministries in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as a critical alternative or second-line intervention for severe, complicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria when Artesunate is unavailable or contraindicated.
Product Overview
This formulation contains Quinine Dihydrochloride, a highly soluble salt of the natural cinchona alkaloid, possessing profound schizonticidal activity.
The “Hemozoin Inhibitor” Specialist:
- Mechanism (Toxic Heme Accumulation): As the malaria parasite digests human hemoglobin inside its food vacuole, it produces a toxic byproduct called free heme. The parasite normally polymerizes this toxic heme into a harmless crystal called hemozoin. Quinine binds to the hemozoin and blocks this biocrystallization process. The resulting buildup of free, toxic heme destroys the parasite from the inside out.
- Severe Malaria Utility: While modern protocols favor IV Artesunate, IV Quinine remains a globally recognized, indispensable backbone for severe malaria management, particularly in regions facing emerging artemisinin resistance or during severe stockouts.
- Skeletal Muscle Relaxant: Quinine also possesses muscle relaxant properties, acting on the motor end-plate to increase the refractory period of skeletal muscle (though rarely used specifically for this via IV).

Manufacturing Authority
Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.
- Alkaloid Stability: Quinine salts are prone to photodegradation. Our manufacturing lines utilize amber glass and specialized lighting during the filling and sealing process to ensure zero degradation of the active pharmaceutical ingredient prior to dispatch.
- Terminal Sterilization: Ampoules undergo validated terminal sterilization via moist heat (autoclaving), ensuring absolute safety for direct systemic infusion in severely immunocompromised and critically ill malaria patients.
Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)
Indicated for the treatment of life-threatening parasitic infections:
- Severe / Complicated Malaria: Caused by Plasmodium falciparum, especially in areas with known Chloroquine resistance.
- Babesiosis: Used as an adjunctive treatment (often with Clindamycin) for severe Babesia microti infections.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per WHO Malaria Guidelines):
- Route: Slow Intravenous (IV) Infusion ONLY. (IM injection is possible but can cause severe local necrosis and abscess formation; IV is highly preferred).
- FATAL WARNING: NEVER ADMINISTER AS A RAPID IV BOLUS. Rapid injection causes lethal hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias.
- Standard Loading Dose: 20 mg/kg of Quinine Dihydrochloride diluted in 500 ml of 5% Dextrose, infused slowly over 4 hours.
- Maintenance Dose: 10 mg/kg infused over 4 hours, every 8 hours, until the patient can tolerate oral antimalarial therapy.
Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):
- Profound Hypoglycemia: Quinine strongly stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. Severe, life-threatening hypoglycemia is common, particularly in pregnant women and children. Must be infused with Dextrose and blood glucose must be monitored constantly.
- Cinchonism: A classic toxicity syndrome presenting with tinnitus (ringing in ears), reversible hearing loss, headache, blurred vision, and nausea.
- Cardiotoxicity / QT Prolongation: Can cause conduction disturbances. Monitor ECG if possible, and avoid co-administration with other QT-prolonging drugs (like Halofantrine or Mefloquine).
- Blackwater Fever: A rare but severe complication causing massive intravascular hemolysis and dark urine.
