Description
Erythromycin Capsules
Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of essential antibacterial and respiratory therapies. We provide high-purity Erythromycin Capsules (250 mg / 500 mg), manufactured in WHO–GMP certified oral solid dosage facilities. This “First-Generation Macrolide” is a mandatory, high-volume export to respiratory clinics, primary care centers, and government health ministries in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as a critical frontline intervention for atypical pneumonias, severe skin infections, and as the premier substitute for Penicillin-allergic patients.
Product Overview
This formulation contains Erythromycin, a naturally occurring macrolide antibiotic produced by the actinomycete Saccharopolyspora erythraea.
The “Ribosomal Translocation” Specialist:
- Mechanism (50S Subunit Blockade): Erythromycin exerts its bacteriostatic (and at higher concentrations, bactericidal) effect by penetrating the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It specifically blocks the translocation of peptides, shutting down RNA-dependent protein synthesis and crippling the bacteria’s ability to multiply.
- The Penicillin Alternative: Because its spectrum of activity closely mirrors that of Penicillin (highly effective against Gram-positive cocci and bacilli), it is globally prescribed as the primary alternative for patients suffering from severe Beta-Lactam hypersensitivity or anaphylaxis.
- Atypical Pathogen Coverage: Unlike Penicillin, Erythromycin possesses profound activity against “atypical” intracellular pathogens that lack standard cell walls, making it the drug of choice for Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila (Legionnaires’ disease), Bordetella pertussis (Whooping cough), and Chlamydia trachomatis.

Manufacturing Authority
Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.
- Gastric Acid Stability: Erythromycin base is partially destroyed by stomach acid. Our encapsulation process strictly utilizes specialized protective enteric matrices within the powder blend, or utilizes specifically calibrated Erythromycin salts/esters (like stearate or ethylsuccinate, if requested by tender) to guarantee maximum intestinal absorption and bioavailability.
- Dissolution Kinetics: Formulated to disintegrate rapidly within the upper gastrointestinal tract, ensuring rapid peak serum concentrations essential for halting acute respiratory and skin infections.
Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)
Indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains:
- Upper & Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Atypical pneumonia, acute bronchitis, Pharyngitis, and Tonsillitis (particularly when caused by Streptococcus pyogenes).
- Pertussis & Diphtheria: Drug of choice for eradicating Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough) and serving as an adjunct to antitoxin in Diphtheria.
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Mild to moderate staphylococcal and streptococcal skin infections.
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Non-gonococcal urethritis (Chlamydia trachomatis) and Syphilis (in Penicillin-allergic patients).
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Administration: Should be taken orally. To maximize absorption, it is best taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). However, if severe gastrointestinal upset occurs, it may be taken with food.
- Standard Adult Dose: 250 mg every 6 hours (four times daily), or 500 mg every 12 hours.
- Severe Infections: Up to 4 grams per day in divided doses.
- Continuous Course: For streptococcal infections, treatment must be continued for at least 10 days to prevent the occurrence of acute rheumatic fever.
Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):
- CYP450 Enzyme Inhibition: Erythromycin is a potent inhibitor of the Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme system. It massively elevates the blood levels of concurrent medications, particularly statins (risk of rhabdomyolysis), anti-arrhythmics, and warfarin (risk of bleeding). Strict medication review is required.
- QT Interval Prolongation: Can prolong the QT interval on an ECG, carrying a risk of severe ventricular arrhythmias, including Torsades de Pointes. Use with extreme caution in patients with underlying cardiac disease or those taking other QT-prolonging drugs.
- Gastrointestinal Motility (Motilin Agonist): Erythromycin directly stimulates motilin receptors in the GI tract. While this causes frequent side effects like severe abdominal cramping, nausea, and diarrhea, it is occasionally used “off-label” by gastroenterologists as a powerful prokinetic agent to force gastric emptying in severe gastroparesis.
