Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

• Route: Intravenous (IV) Infusion Preferred. (IM injection of 1g is painful and not recommended).
• Severe Infections (Osteo/Endocarditis): 1 g to 2 g every 4 to 6 hours. (Total 6g – 12g per day).
• Surgical Prophylaxis: 1 g to 2 g IV at induction of anesthesia.
• Reconstitution: Dissolve 1g vial in 20ml WFI/Saline. Inject slowly over 3-5 minutes or infuse over 30 minutes.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Thrombophlebitis (Vein Damage): High concentrations irritate veins. Always dilute well and infuse slowly. Rotate IV sites frequently or use a central line for long-term therapy.
• Penicillin Allergy: CONTRAINDICATED in patients with anaphylaxis to beta-lactams.
• Neurotoxicity: Massive doses (especially in renal failure) can cause seizures. Dose adjustment required if GFR < 30 ml/min.
