Description

Calcium Gluconate Injection 10%

Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of essential mineral electrolytes and antidotes. We provide high-purity Calcium Gluconate Injection (10% w/v), sourced from WHO–GMP certified sterile injectable facilities. This “Safe Calcium Source” is a top export to dialysis centers, cardiac ICUs, and maternity wards in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as the primary antidote for magnesium toxicity and a critical stabilizer for the heart during severe hyperkalemia.

Product Overview

This formulation contains Calcium Gluconate, a calcium salt that is less irritating to veins than Calcium Chloride, making it the preferred choice for non-emergency calcium replacement and peripheral IV administration.

The “Membrane Stabilizer” Specialist:

  • Mechanism (Cardioprotection): In cases of Hyperkalemia (high potassium), the resting membrane potential of cardiac cells becomes unstable, leading to fatal arrhythmias. Calcium Gluconate raises the threshold potential, restoring the difference between the resting and threshold potentials. This stabilizes the heart muscle immediately (within 1-3 minutes), preventing cardiac arrest, although it does not lower blood potassium levels itself.
  • Neuromuscular Function: It treats Hypocalcemic Tetany (muscle spasms/seizures) by restoring the extracellular calcium levels required for proper nerve transmission and muscle contraction.
  • Antidote Action: It is the specific physiological antagonist to Magnesium. It displaces magnesium from neuromuscular receptors, reversing the respiratory paralysis caused by Magnesium Sulfate overdose (e.g., in Eclampsia treatment).

Manufacturing Authority

Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.

  • Supersaturation Technology: A 10% solution of Calcium Gluconate is supersaturated and prone to precipitation (crystallization). We use Calcium D-Saccharate as a sequestering agent and precise heat-cycling during manufacturing to stabilize the solution, ensuring it remains clear and liquid for its shelf life.
  • Vein Safety: Unlike Calcium Chloride (which is 3x more potent but highly caustic), our Gluconate formulation is buffered to be safe for peripheral venous administration, reducing the risk of chemical phlebitis.

Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)

Indicated for emergency stabilization and electrolyte correction:

  • Severe Hyperkalemia: Immediate protection against cardiac arrhythmia.
  • Acute Hypocalcemia: Treatment of tetany (muscle spasms, paresthesia, seizures) particularly after thyroid/parathyroid surgery.
  • Magnesium Toxicity: Antidote for overdose during pre-eclampsia treatment.
  • Calcium Channel Blocker Overdose: To increase transmembrane calcium flux.

Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

  • Route: Slow Intravenous (IV) Injection or Infusion.
  • Rate: Do not exceed 1.5 ml per minute (Rapid injection can cause cardiac arrest).
  • Adults: 10 ml to 20 ml (1-2 g) as an initial dose.
  • Children: 200-500 mg/kg/day by continuous infusion.
  • Note: Patient should remain lying down for a short time after injection.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

  • Ceftriaxone Incompatibility (FATAL): NEVER mix Calcium Gluconate with Ceftriaxone (antibiotic). It forms insoluble precipitates in the lungs and kidneys, which can be fatal. Wait 48 hours between administering these two drugs.
  • Extravasation: If the drug leaks out of the vein, it can cause tissue necrosis and sloughing. Stop infusion immediately if pain occurs.
  • Digitalis: Use with extreme caution in patients taking Digoxin (risk of toxicity).
