Product Overview

This formulation contains α-β Arteether, an ethyl ether derivative of Artemisinin (Qinghaosu), suspended in an oily vehicle for sustained release.

The “Cerebral Malaria” Specialist:

• Mechanism (The “Free Radical” Bomb): Like other Artemisinin derivatives, Arteether contains an endoperoxide bridge. When it comes into contact with the high iron concentrations (heme) inside the malaria parasite, this bridge splits, releasing toxic free radicals. These radicals damage the parasite’s membranes and proteins, causing rapid death.
• Lipid Solubility: Unlike Artesunate (water-soluble), Arteether is highly lipid-soluble. This allows it to accumulate in fatty tissues and be released slowly, providing a longer duration of action (elimination half-life > 20 hours). It also crosses the Blood-Brain Barrier effectively, making it crucial for Cerebral Malaria (coma).
• Resistance Breaker: Highly effective against Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) strains of Plasmodium falciparum.

Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):

• Route: Deep Intramuscular (IM) Injection ONLY. (Upper outer quadrant of the buttock).
• WARNING: NEVER give Intravenously (IV). Injecting oil into a vein can cause fatal pulmonary oil embolism.
• Adults: 150 mg (1 ampoule) once daily for 3 consecutive days.
• Children: 3 mg/kg once daily for 3 consecutive days.
• Follow-up: Once the patient can tolerate oral medication, a full course of ACT (Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy) is recommended to prevent recrudescence.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Injection Site Pain: Oily injections are viscous and can be painful. Massage the area after injection to aid absorption.
• Neurotoxicity: High doses in animals caused brain stem damage. While rare in humans at therapeutic doses, strict adherence to the 3-day regimen is advised.
• Pregnancy: Avoid in the first trimester unless life-saving. Use with caution in 2nd/3rd trimesters.
