Product Overview

This formulation contains Cisplatin, an inorganic platinum coordination complex that acts as a potent alkylating-like agent.

The “Platinum” Standard:

• Mechanism (The “DNA-Crosslinker”): Cisplatin enters the cell and loses its chloride ions. The reactive platinum species then binds to the N7 position of Guanine bases in DNA, forming intra-strand cross-links. This kinks the DNA helix, preventing replication and transcription, forcing the cancer cell into apoptosis (suicide).
• Testicular Cancer Cure: It is the primary reason for the >90% cure rate in metastatic testicular cancer (part of the BEP regimen).
• Radiosensitizer: It acts synergistically with radiation therapy, making tumor cells more sensitive to radiation damage. This is the standard of care for locally advanced Cervical and Head & Neck cancers.

Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Oncologist):

• Route: Intravenous (IV) Infusion ONLY.
• Standard Dose: 50 to 100 mg/m² administered once every 3 to 4 weeks.
• Concurrent Radiation: 40 mg/m² weekly.
• Hydration Protocol (MANDATORY):
  • Patient must receive 1-2 Liters of Saline before AND after the Cisplatin infusion.
  • Urine output must be > 100 ml/hr to prevent kidney failure.
• Administration: Infuse over 6-8 hours. Do not use aluminum needles.

Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):

• Nephrotoxicity (Kidney Damage): Cisplatin accumulates in the kidney tubules. Cumulative and dose-related. Hydration and Mannitol diuresis are essential. Monitor Creatinine/BUN.
• Ototoxicity (Hearing Loss): Causes permanent high-frequency hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing ears). Especially in children.
• Severe Nausea & Vomiting: Highly emetogenic (>90%). Requires aggressive anti-emetic protocol (NK1 inhibitor + 5HT3 inhibitor + Dexamethasone).
• Neurotoxicity: Peripheral neuropathy (“glove and stocking” numbness).
