Description
Artesunate Injection 120mg
Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of the WHO-recommended first-line therapy for severe malaria. We provide high-purity Artesunate Injection (120mg), sourced from WHO–GMP certified sterile injectable facilities. This “Gold Standard Life Saver” is a top export to critical care units, infectious disease hospitals, and government health ministries in Africa (Sub-Saharan), LATAM, and Southeast Asia, having officially replaced Quinine as the preferred treatment for severe and complicated malaria.
Product Overview
This formulation contains Artesunate, a water-soluble hemisuccinate derivative of Artemisinin. Unlike Artemether (oil-soluble), Artesunate can be administered Intravenously (IV), ensuring immediate bioavailability.
The “Gold Standard” Specialist:
- Mechanism (The “Peroxide Bomb”): The antimalarial activity is derived from the endoperoxide bridge. Upon contact with iron (heme) in the parasite, it releases free radicals that destroy the parasite’s membranes.
- Superiority over Quinine: Clinical trials (AQUAMAT and SEAQUAMAT) have proven that parenteral Artesunate significantly reduces mortality in severe malaria compared to Quinine. It does not cause hypoglycemia or cardiac toxicity (QT prolongation) associated with Quinine.
- Solubility: It is the only Artemisinin derivative that is water-soluble (as sodium artesunate), allowing for rapid IV bolus administration.

Manufacturing Authority
Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.
- Lyophilization Integrity: Artesunate is unstable in liquid form (it hydrolyzes to Dihydroartemisinin). We use advanced freeze-drying technology to create a stable powder cake that remains potent for 24-36 months.
- Solvent Compatibility: The Sodium Bicarbonate ampoule is manufactured with precise pH control to ensuring the Artesunate dissolves completely into a clear solution within 2 minutes, preventing particulate issues during IV injection.
Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)
Indicated as the Drug of Choice for severe malaria:
- Severe Malaria (Adults & Children): Infection with Plasmodium falciparum where the patient cannot take oral medication.
- Cerebral Malaria: Coma or altered consciousness due to malaria.
- High Parasitemia: Hyperparasitemia (>5%) requiring rapid clearance.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per WHO Guidelines):
- Dosing Schedule: 2.4 mg/kg body weight given at 0 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours. Then once daily until oral therapy can begin.
- Reconstitution (CRITICAL):
- Inject the Sodium Bicarbonate (1ml) into the powder vial. Shake until clear. (Solution becomes Sodium Artesunate).
- Add the Sodium Chloride (5ml) to dilute.
- Administer immediately by slow IV (3-4 ml/min) or IM.
- Note: DO NOT use Water for Injection as the first solvent; it will not dissolve the powder. Use the Bicarbonate provided.
Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):
- Post-Artesunate Delayed Hemolysis (PADH): In rare cases, delayed hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) can occur weeks after therapy. Monitor hemoglobin levels for 4 weeks post-treatment.
- Precipitation: Once reconstituted, if the solution becomes cloudy or precipitates, discard immediately.
- Pregnancy: Safe for use in 2nd and 3rd trimesters. In 1st trimester, benefit usually outweighs risk in severe malaria cases.
