Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Intramuscular (IM) or Intravenous (IV) Injection / Infusion.
- Surgical Prophylaxis (Adults): 1 g to 2 g IV administered 30-60 minutes before skin incision. Repeat dose if surgery exceeds 4 hours.
- General Infections (Adults): 500 mg to 1 g every 6 to 8 hours. Max 6 g/day.
- Children: 25-50 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 doses.
- Reconstitution: Dissolve 1g vial in 2.5ml WFI. Shake well.
Safety Warnings (CRITICAL):
- Penicillin Allergy: Use with caution in penicillin-allergic patients (Cross-reactivity is low but possible). CONTRAINDICATED if the patient has had anaphylaxis to penicillins.
- Renal Impairment: Dosage must be reduced in patients with kidney failure (Creatinine Clearance < 55 ml/min).
- Phlebitis: IV injection can cause vein irritation. Rotate injection sites.
