This formulation contains Acyclovir Sodium, a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue with potent activity against human herpes viruses.

• Chain Termination: Acyclovir Triphosphate competes with natural deoxyguanosine triphosphate (dGTP) for the viral DNA polymerase. Once incorporated into the growing viral DNA chain, it terminates synthesis because it lacks the 3′-hydroxyl group necessary for chain elongation.
• Selectivity: Because it requires the viral enzyme for activation, it has a high affinity for infected cells while remaining relatively non-toxic to healthy human cells.

• Phlebitis: Due to high pH, extravasation causes severe tissue necrosis. Inspect the IV site frequently.
